Post-Harvest Operations Manager

Farm on the River — a leading organic grower for CSA — is seeking an experienced and motivated Post-Harvest Operations Manager to join our year-round team. This is a critical leadership role that oversees the flow of hundreds of thousands of pounds of organic produce from our fields to our CSA members and wholesale customers in the New York metro area and southern Vermont and New Hampshire.

This role combines hands-on post-harvest management with team leadership—training and supervising the packing shed crew, directing daily workflow, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and ensuring full compliance with safety, food safety, and employment regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Post-Harvest Operations

  • Direct and oversee daily washing, grading, packing, and order fulfillment.

  • Track and maintain quality standards for all produce.

  • Enforce sanitation and workplace safety protocols.

  • Maintain compliance documentation for organic certification and food safety.

  • Coordinate with the management team to plan daily post harvest activities.

  • Supervise the loading of CSA delivery trucks.

  • Manage bulk storage crops in coolers.

  • Maintain packing shed equipment, schedule repairs, and coordinate with mechanics.

  • Oversee harvest and post-harvest supply inventory, ordering, and organization.

  • Receive, process, and coordinate CSA orders.

  • Communicate with drivers, CSA managers, and organizational partners.

Additional Farm Support (as time allows)

  • Assist with field or greenhouse work (seeding, irrigation, harvesting, cultivating, high tunnel production).

  • Participate in winter greenhouse production.

  • Place orders for production materials & equipment

  • Receive incoming deliveries

  • Conduct soil samples & leaf testing

Qualifications

  • Required:

    • 2+ years experience in farming, food production, or post-harvest operations.

    • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs repeatedly.

    • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

    • Knowledge of food quality standards.

    • Experience with pallet jacks and forklifts.

    • Positive, adaptable, and team-oriented work ethic.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, email, and internet tools.

  • Preferred:

    • Working knowledge of Spanish.

    • Experience with compliance documentation for food safety and organic certification.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Year-round. Full-time position in peak season, March-November. Part-time position in off-season, December-February. 

  • Monday through Friday, 7am-5pm during peak season. Flexible hours in off-season.
